Pinterest Mess-up/FAIL

Pinterest - everyone's heard of it, correct? It's the evil, time-sucking website that manages to convince any innocent person that views it that they can cook incredible meals without problem, lose weight without dieting, and be totally successful at any project that they might see.
--
NorthernDaddy likes to peruse Pinterest regularly - it's good for ideas and entertainment.
--
Sometimes, the ideas seem wonderful.

They don't always work out....

NorthernDaddy saw the photo below and thought that it would be the perfect answer to the Northerns' perpetually cluttered bathroom sink. It would corral all of the 'necessary' items that get left on the counter (because they don't fit in the medicine cabinet or LittleNortherner can't reach what he needs) and keep them from getting wet when water gets splashed around the sink (wonder who?).
(Sorry - can't credit the photo because the person who pinned it didn't link back to the original)
NorthernDaddy took the bait - he decided to build this storage shelf. Careful measurements were taken so that the shelf would look right centered on the wall under the mirror. More measurements were checked to make sure the glass jars and toothbrush holder would fit. Everything was a "go".
The wood was fairly inexpensive, and NorthernDaddy got to buy a new tool: a combination drill/countersink bit with reversable driving bit that chucks into his drill. (Slightly off-topic, NorthernDaddy also recently bought a circular saw. Had to have it to rip the plywood for the hockey rink. It was the $40 Skil on sale at the hardware store, not the $130 DeWalt he wanted! After years of having to borrow saws for projects, it makes NorthernDaddy feel a little like a grown-up to have his very own saw...) The case turned out well; the cuts were accurate and the countersink worked like a charm. Before placing the dividers, NorthernDaddy went and held the shelf up where it was supposed to go. Uh-oh. The measurements seemed good, but.....this thing is way too large. It hovers over the sink like the Goodyear blimp over a colony of ants. It blocks the reach to the faucet like an NFL linebacker. A quick look back to the Pinterest page...what did Daddy miss? The shelf looks normal on their wall...it doesn't hang over the faucets or cover half the sink...what's different?
--
The only thing that NorthernDaddy can figure is that.....it's gotta be....the people that made the original were using lotions and brushes from a doll house!
--
The Northerns are going to re-purpose this shelf and chalk this one up as a Pinterest Fail....
